Black Widow Front and Rear Motorcycle Stands

I received my Black Widow Motorcycle Stands today and couldn’t wait to test them out. The Ninja 650r has a sleek looking exhaust that slips underneath the bike, but unfortunately this prevents it from having a center stand. So for chain maintenance I have to wheel the bike up and down the drive way, which I’ve gotten used to, but it’s still a pain.

I bought a front and rear stand from for about $90. Considering I see Pit Bull stands sell for $130 for just a front or rear I thought this was a pretty good deal. Will they perform just as well though? I took a chance to find out.

At first I was having a hard time getting the wheel up on the rear stand. Since the bike leans to the left on it’s side stand the swing arm is not parallel to the ground. On my first attempt I centered the bike by holding on to the rear seat. As I wrestled the rear stand into position with one hand the bike shifted to the right and BAM! down it went. My frame sliders saved the day and there was no damage. Two drops in 3 years ain’t a bad record. I solved my balance problems by sitting backwards on my bike to straddle it centered and get the rear stand in position. I opted for a spool-less rear stand that has pads which the swing arms rest on, so once I got the pads firmly in position I hopped off the bike to push down on the lever to raise the wheel up. It doesn’t take much force to raise it up.

Time to lift the front wheel. The bottom of my forks have holes which the steel rods slip into to raise the front. I’m not sure if it is possible but I believe the rear wheel needs to be raised in order to lift the front wheel. Centering the bike is impossible for me to do from the front, so with the rear wheel up on the stand I started on lifting the front wheel. The front came up easily. A little wobble from the forks scared me at first but it was just centering itself as the forks were being lifted by the stand.

Conclusion: It took some getting used to, but overall I’m happy with the wheel stands. The reason I bought these is to take my wheels in to get the tires replaced. It costs about $20 in labor just to take the wheel off at my shop, so after a couple of tire changes these stands will have paid for themselves. I think these stands are an affordable alternative to many of the stands on the market today.

    I’ve got lift bobbins on the rear arm which helps the bike ‘locate’ on the stand without fear of it going over! They’re small and look like part of the bike so I keep them on all the time

    I haven’t got a front stand .. any chance of a photo showing how and where yours support the bike?

    Put a piece of wood under the side stand to almost lift the bike straight up before using the rear stand
